Design Futures— Keynote Presentation

Design Futures is a five-day interdisciplinary leadership development convening that centers principles of racial justice and social equity. Design Futures fosters capacity-building for future leaders to think critically about power, privilege, and positionality in the practice of community-engaged design and to rethink and elevate the role of the designer to address and dismantle systemic oppression in the build environment.

In 2020, Washington University will be hosting the Design Futures Forum in St. Louis, MO. During my keynote talk, I will capstone the experience with a reflective talk about sustaining personal and collective well-being in the fight for racial healing and justice. De will share lessons from her challenges of navigating design projects with a chronic illness and interweave additional insights to assess the collective trauma of our current moment and propose a set of provocations that designers might consider as we design toward a more just and healthy future.
