Institutional Listening: Common Field Conference Panel

Watch the Livestream via Common Field.

On November 4, De Nichols joined arts leaders for a main-stage discussion during Common Field Conference Los Angeles that probed the dynamics, responsibilities, and choices that artists and organizations navigate in their responsiveness to communities. Titled, “Institutional Listening,” this session served to “discuss what duties different players have to respond to feedback or criticism and how we create conditions for these conversations–from artists representing themselves as individuals to organizations/institutions with missions and audiences to consider.” Pulling from personal experiences navigating racial controversy as a museum-based community engagement strategist, De detailed strategies for how institutions and artists can harness racial equity in their educational, curatorial, and programmatic relationships to communities.
